tended.money is a quiet home for your finances — and a home should be private. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why we collect it, and what we will never do with it.

Who we are

tended.money ("we", "us") provides a hosted personal-finance service that brings your accounts, budgets, and taxes into one place. This policy covers the tended.money website and application. If you have any questions about it, write to us at [email protected].

What we collect

Account information

When you sign up we collect your email address and the credentials used to authenticate you. That's what we need to keep your account yours.

Financial data, via Plaid

When you connect a bank or brokerage, you do so through Plaid. Plaid shares with us the account names, balances, and transactions you authorize. We never see or store your bank username or password — those go directly to Plaid, and our access uses revocable tokens. You can read how Plaid handles your data in Plaid's end-user privacy policy.

Billing information, via Stripe

Paid memberships and AI credits are billed through Stripe. Stripe processes your card details; we never store card numbers. We keep records of your subscription status and purchases so the service knows what you've paid for.

Usage analytics

We use PostHog to understand how the product is used — which features are helpful, where things break — so we can tend to it. Analytics are about product usage, not about profiling your finances.

AI features

When you use the AI assistant, the content of your conversation and the financial context needed to answer (for example, relevant transactions or budget figures) is sent to third-party AI model providers for processing. We send only what's needed to answer your question, and we don't allow providers to use your data to train their models where such controls are offered.

How we use your data

• To provide the service: syncing accounts, computing budgets, categorizing transactions, and showing you your own money clearly.
• To power features you invoke, like AI insights and chat.
• To bill you for memberships and credits.
• To support you when something goes wrong.
• To improve the product, using aggregate usage patterns.

What we will never do

• We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
• We do not show ads.
• We do not share your financial data with third parties beyond the processors listed below.

Who processes your data

We rely on a small set of processors to run the service: Convex (application hosting and database), Plaid (bank connections), Stripe (payments), PostHog (product analytics), and AI model providers (AI features, only when you use them). Each processes your data solely to provide their service to us.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as you keep your account. If you delete your account, we delete your data from the service. You can disconnect a bank at any time, which revokes our access through Plaid. Billing records may be retained where required for tax and accounting purposes.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Bank access uses revocable tokens rather than stored credentials, and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat your financial data with the care we'd want for our own.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll update the effective date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app or by email.
